Nearly There, Now I Get to Play Pretty! 🌿🌸

Well, since my last update, I have quite literally been painting my butt off!

My arms ache, my back aches, and I’m fairly certain I’ve discovered muscles I didn’t know existed. But seeing those beautiful greens and soft pinks finally bringing this wonderful old building back to life has made every aching muscle worth it.

There have been moments when I’ve stood back, paintbrush in hand, covered in paint, and thought… yes. This is exactly how I pictured it.

We are getting so close now.

A little change to our launch plans

Our invite-only opening evening is on Friday 30th October, which also happens to be the night of the Light Party at our wonderful church, Horham Baptist.

Our church friends are usually my go-to people when I need a little extra support with the boys, but they will quite rightly be busy supporting the church, nurturing our young people, crafting, eating and generally having a lovely time!

That means Tom will be at home with the boys on Friday evening.

I won’t pretend I haven’t found that hard.

There have been tears. There may have been a few snappy words. And yes, this perimenopausal woman may even have thrown the odd mild tantrum! 😂

I desperately wanted him standing beside me when we opened the doors for the first time.

But family has to come first, and Tom also has to get up at 3am for work, so somehow we have to make all the pieces of family life fit together.

And while he won’t physically be beside me on Friday evening, he has been beside me through every part of this journey.

He is my quiet rock. My gentle encouragement. The kiss on the top of my head when I’m crying, followed by, “You’ve got this.”

And thankfully, he will be joining me on Saturday afternoon and working the shop floor, so you’ll all get the chance to meet him then. 🤍

I’m dreaming of normal clothes!

I genuinely long for the day when I can wake up, shower, sort the children out, drive to Framlingham and simply open my shop.

Firstly because I might actually wear makeup again.

Secondly because I am very ready to retire the leggings and ancient paint-stained tops that have become my renovation uniform!

This week, the downstairs floors are being installed and then…

WE ARE DONE!

Well…

Almost.

I still have to finish the stairs. But we’re not talking about those. 😂

Then, finally, after months of ripping things out, cleaning, sanding, building, painting, planning and worrying…

I GET TO PLAY PRETTY! 😍

I get to unpack all the beautiful stock that has been arriving, dress the shelves, arrange the flowers, plump the cushions and finally turn this old building into Nell’s Farmhouse Interiors.

The bit I have been dreaming about.

And yes… I am terrified

I’m not going to pretend that underneath all this excitement there isn’t fear.

There absolutely is.

I’m terrified that we won’t make enough money. I’m terrified that I’ve taken this enormous leap and people won’t come through the door.

But I also have faith.

Faith in our brand. Faith in my vision. Faith in the beautiful products we have chosen. And faith that somehow, this is the path I’m supposed to be walking.

I know selling beautiful things for your home isn’t world-changing.

But home matters.

It’s the place we come back to. The place we raise our families, drink cups of tea, celebrate birthdays, curl up when life is difficult and make thousands of tiny memories.

And if I can help somebody make their house feel a little more like their home, then that brings me enormous joy.

I’m also incredibly proud that we support British-made products and small businesses wherever we can. The products we choose are carefully sourced, and I want Nell’s to be somewhere you can discover fabulous finds from other wonderful businesses too.

And please when you visit, talk to me!

Tell me about the awkward corner you don’t know what to do with. Tell me about the room you’re dreaming of changing. Bring me a photo. Ask my opinion.

I will happily chat about your ideas, help you put pieces together and probably get far too excited about your plans!

That is exactly the kind of shop I want Nell’s to be.

Behind the little shop is a normal family

Tomorrow, business plans and paintbrushes take a back seat.

My daughter has a cardiac appointment.

As her mum, I’m praying that everything is okay and that no further treatment is needed.

Days like tomorrow are a reminder that behind every little independent business you follow is simply a normal family.

We’re juggling children, appointments, work, school, relationships, washing piles, worries, bills and all the other things life throws at us while trying to build something we believe in.

So when you like one of our posts, share our page, visit our website, tell somebody about the shop or walk through our door, please know that it genuinely means something to us.

Your support and your trust mean more than I can put into words.

We are nearly there.

The floors are going down.

The paintbrushes are almost being put away.

And very soon, I finally get to stand inside the little shop I have spent months dreaming about and say:

Welcome to Nell’s Farmhouse Interiors. 🤍

I really cannot wait to welcome you.

Much love,

Nell xx
