A Quiet Week, A Busy Mind & A Little Bit of Nell 💚
This week has been a quieter one in the shop, although “quiet” probably isn’t quite the right word when you have all your children at home and there are no clubs or usual routines to keep everyone occupied!
Other than Thursday, when I managed to get a good chunk of work done, it’s been a little challenging to make much progress at the shop. But that doesn’t mean things aren’t happening…
Oh, things are definitely happening behind the scenes!
The flooring has been purchased, the skip has been ordered, and gorgeous new stock is continuing to arrive regularly. I’ve also been sketching out floor plans and trying to work out exactly where everything will go.
I can already picture it in my head, and I’m getting so excited to see it all come together. There’s something quite magical about taking an empty space and slowly turning it into something that feels
One of those weeks…
Of course, life has a funny way of throwing a few extra things into the mix
My beautiful mum had surgery on Friday, so naturally she has been very much on my mind. ❤️
Then, as if Friday hadn’t already brought enough, my car decided it would be the perfect time to develop a major coolant leak.
And where was I when this happened?
Twenty-five minutes from home, at a park, with my children and one of their friends!
Thankfully, there was a little bit of kindness and good fortune involved. My daughter’s friend’s mum happened to be in Tesco almost opposite the park and very kindly gave all of us a lift home, allowing me to go back and wait for the RAC.
Sometimes you just have to laugh, don’t you?
It seems that opening a shop comes with a side order of “let’s see what else we can throw at Nell this week!”😂
And then… we got a till!
We officially now have a till system for the shop.
Which sounds very grown-up and exciting…
Until you realise that technology is not exactly our strongest talent!😂
So now we have another thing to learn.
There is something quite surreal about looking around the shop and thinking, “Oh my goodness… this is actually becoming a proper shop.”
The flooring, the till, the stock, the plans… piece by piece it’s happening.
The back-to-school chaos
And then there’s this week.
One of my children is starting high school, while my partners is starting primary school.
As a blended family, life is always interesting, sometimes chaotic, and very often incredibly beautiful. ❤️
But goodness me, the list of things to do feels never-ending!
Clothes to sort.
Skirts to adjust.
Bags to pack.
Uniforms to find.
Labels to sew in.
House to tidy.
Garden to tend.
Children to organise.
And somewhere amongst all of that, apparently I’m supposed to run a business too!
I genuinely wonder sometimes where I’m going to find the time.
But this shop is more than a shop to me
And I think that’s what I keep coming back to.
Nell’s Farmhouse Interiors is more than just a shop.
It’s a little bit of Nell.
It’s my passion.
My creativity.
My personality.
My space.
A place where I’m not just Mum, or the cleaner, cook, organiser, homework helper or taxi driver.
It’s somewhere I can simply be Nell.
A woman trying to make a go of something she loves.
A woman who has been through some incredibly difficult seasons and is now standing here, looking at an empty shop and thinking:
“Right… let’s give this a go.”
And, if I’m completely honest, I’m praying for the best! 🙏🏻
As a mum to multiple neurodiverse children, I’ve learnt that having a little time to simply be matters.
To be creative.
To be relaxed.
To be present.
To have something that belongs to me.
I hope that finding that little piece of myself will ultimately help me be the best mum I can be too.
Because perhaps looking after ourselves isn’t selfish after all.
Perhaps sometimes it’s exactly what we need in order to keep giving to everyone else.
And next week…
Well, hopefully next week I’ll have something very exciting to show you…
THE FLOORING! 🥳
It’s been purchased, it’s waiting, and I absolutely cannot wait to see it down.
Every week this little shop becomes a little more Nell’s Farmhouse Interiors.
Thank you, as always, for following along with our journey, cheering us on, popping into the shop, asking questions and getting excited with us.
There’s still a long way to go, but I’m starting to see the vision.
And I really, really love it. 💚
Until next week…
Love, Nell x
